TRANSLATION STRATEGIES IN RUDY HABIBIE MOVIE

The thesis deals with the translation strategies used in Rudy Habibie movie. The objectives of this study were to find out the types and the most dominant type of translation strategies used in the subtitles of Rudy Habibie movie. This study was conducted by using descriptive qualitative method. The data of the study were words, phrases, and clauses in the subtitle of Rudy Habibie movie, there were 443 data from 235 dialogues in the movie. The data analysis were taken by listing and tabulating. The data were analyzed based on the theory that proposed by Henrik Gottlieb.
The findings indicated that there were eight types of translation strategies used in the movie, they were transfer (161 times), paraphrase (106 times), imitation (63 times), expansion (48 times), condensation (42 times),decimation (11 times), deletion (9 times), resignation (3 times).
