Abstract

Penelitian ini dilakukan karena kemampuan pemecahan masalah matematika siswa di kelas VIII SMP Negeri 35 Medan sangat rendah, dilihat dari tes awal (Observasi) dan hasil diskusi dengan guru bidang studi. Penelitian ini adalah penelitian eksperimen bertujuan untuk mengetahui apakah kemampuan pemecahan masalah siswa yang diajar dengan menggunakan model pembelajaran ROPES lebih baik daripada Model Pembelajaran STAD pada materi Kubus dan Balok kelas VIII SMP Negeri 35 Medan T.A. 2014/2015. Populasi sasaran dalam penelitian ini adalah seluruh siswa kelas VIII SMP Negeri 35 Medan T.A. 2014/2015, sedangkan yang menjadi sampel sasaran dalam penelitian ini ada dua kelas, yaitu kelas VIII-6 sebanyak 37 siswa sebagai kelas eksperimen A dengan Model Pembelajaran ROPES dan kelas VIII-5 sebanyak 36 siswa sebagai kelas eksperimen B dengan Model Pembelajaran STAD. Instrumen penelitian ini berupa pretes dan postes yang berbentuk essay tes yang telah valid dan reliabel sebanyak 5 soal. Sebelum instrumen diberikan pada siswa kelas eksperimen A dan siswa kelas eksperimen B, essay tes pretest dan postest terlebih dahulu diuji coba di kelas IX-2 SMP Negeri 35 Medan.. Nilai rata-rata kemampuan pemecahan masalah siswa yang diajar dengan Model Pembelajaran ROPES pada soal pretest 34,054 dan pada soal postest 71,24 maka tingkat perubahan kemampuan pemecahan masalah adalah 37,186. Sedangkan nilai rata-rata kemampuan pemecahan masalah siswa yang diajar dengan menggunakan Model Pembelajaran STAD pada soal pretest 33,055 dan pada soal postest 59,555 maka tingkat perubahan kemampuan pemecahan masalah adalah 26,5.
