Abstract
This study aimed to develop an Educaplay-based digital worksheet for teaching
descriptive text writing to eleventh-grade Multimedia students at SMK Negeri 1
Kabanjahe. This study was conducted because students experienced difficulties in
writing descriptive texts, particularly in vocabulary mastery, grammatical accuracy,
idea organization, and confidence. In addition, the learning process still relied on
conventional worksheets with limited interactive and technology-based activities.
This research employed the Design and Development Research (DDR) model
adapted from Richey and Klein (2007), consisting of four stages: analysis, design,
development, and evaluation. The data sources were one English teacher and 30
eleventh-grade Multimedia students of SMK Negeri 1 Kabanjahe. The data were
collected through interviews, questionnaires, and document analysis using an
interview guide and a students’ needs analysis questionnaire. The collected data
were analyzed descriptively to identify students’ learning needs and guide the
development of the instructional product. The final product was an Educaplaybased
digital worksheet consisting of Word Search, Line Up, Quiz, and Fill in the
Blanks activities that guided students through vocabulary building, sentence
construction, text organization, and descriptive writing practice. The product was
validated by expert validators in terms of linguistic aspects, learning process,
product design, and content, obtaining an average validity score of 89.5%,
categorized as Highly Valid. The findings indicated that the developed digital
worksheet was appropriate for supporting descriptive text writing and had the
potential to improve students' motivation, engagement, vocabulary mastery,
grammatical accuracy, organization of ideas, and writing skills.
