Students’ Speaking Problems in Information Gap Activities on Grade 7 Of SMP N 24 Medan

This study is about analysis Students’ Speaking problems in Information Gap Activities and causes of students’ speaking problems at SMP N 24 Medan. The objective of this study are (1) To reveal students’ speaking problems in Information Gap Activities on grade 7 of SMP N 24 Medan (2) To investigate the causes of students’ speaking problems in Information Gap Activities on grade 7 of SMP N 24 Medan. The data were gathered from the utterances of students in video recording during doing the worksheet and from students’ answers in questionnaire sheet to uncover students’ speaking problems and causes of students speaking problems. The results of this study were Students in Class 7b at SMP N 24 Medan had speaking problems in Shyness and inhibition, Finding things to say, low participation of individuals, and L1 use. The percentages of shyness and inhibition is 92.30 %, finding things to say is 7.69 %, low participation of individuals is 7.69 %, and L1 use is 38.46 %. The causes of students’ speaking problems are lack of vocabulary, poor in grammar, and poor in pronunciation. The percentage of Lack of Vocabulary is 100 %, poor in grammar is 100%, and poor in pronunciation is 100 %
