Abstract

The objective of this study was to analyze the ambiguous meaning in Bahasa Inggris Kurikulum 2013’s textbook (2nd edition) to make no misunderstanding for students to get information from their textbook. It was conducted by using descriptive qualitative research with a purpose to describe the types of ambiguity and the dominant use of ambiguous meaning in textbook. The object of this study is sentences that contain ambiguous meaning in the Bahasa Inggris Kurikulum 2013’s textbook to find out the ambiguous meaning in the textbook and also the dominant type of the ambiguous meaning in the textbook. In analyzing the data used the library research method. The result shows that, there are only 10 words and phrases found in the textbook. It consisted of 4 structural ambiguities, 3 referential ambiguities, 2 lexical ambiguities, and 1 phonetic ambiguity. The dominant type that were found was structural ambiguity. The ambiguous meaning that was found will not be difficult for students to face. It is expected that the findings of this study will be useful for everyone wo wants to study more about the ambiguous meaning.
