ANALISIS KROMOSOM PADA SIRIH HIJAU (Piper betle)

Green betel (Piper betle) is known as a medicinal plant because it is a plant that has many functions for the treatment of various diseases. Green betel has the physical characteristics of a heart-shaped leaf with a pointed tip, dark green combined with light green and has a grain-shaped
flower and a distinctive aroma. With the virtue or benefits of green betel (Piper betle) while there is still little genetic information from these plants, it is necessary to have a deeper study of chromosome analysis of green betel plants (Piper betle) so that later can be used in business or plant propagation techniques. The purpose of this study is to analyze chromosomes in green betel plants (Piper betle) in order to obtain information about the number and shape of chromosomes in green betel plants (Piper betle). Green betel (Piper betle) has a number of 2n chromosomes = 78 chromosomes. Chromosome activity can be seen in the cell cycle, including in mitotic division. Chromosome analysis is the first step in studying chromosomes and one of the ways in this study is to make a root preparation of green betel vine (Piper betle) and then observe chromosomes at the root of the plant. Preparations made can be used to find out the mitotic division that occurs using a microscope. From the results of observations obtained chromosomes in different phases during mitotic division, namely in the prophase phase, anaphase and telophase.
