Abstract

The current study investigated lexical words production in natural speech produced by two patients of broca aphasics in Pirngadi hospital Medan where they were being cured. This study is aimed to investigate lexical words in the speech production of Broca Aphasia patients especially on their phonology impairment. This study conducted descriptive qualitative research as its design. The instruments used for this study were recorder and field note. The data were analysed by using Miles, Huberman and Saldana’s technique. The subjects of the study were two patients (male and female). The visits were done for one week in order to get the data which were recorded for 15 minutes (patient 1) and 30 minutes (patient 2). The results clearly revealed the different kind of the impaired lexical words which was mostly produced by the patients.They also demonstrated that Broca Aphasia produced verbs more than nouns. But the impaired lexical words was found mostly on nouns. In contrast with the finding of the previous research, the Broca aphasia produced nouns more than verbs and the impaired lexical words was found mostly on verbs. The result of the study showed that both patients produced 279 verbs and 182 nouns whereas they produced 6 impaired verbs and 17 impaired nouns. This study was also found that all processes in the phonology impairment of Broca Aphasia patients’ speech production. But some processes were not found in the certain kinds of lexical words production. There was an addition reasons which was found in the present research was discussing emotional topics. However, the findings should only be regarded as preliminary in an area where further investigations are required, using larger number of subjects in order to have a better understanding of the nature of language deficits among Broca Aphasia patients
