Description:

This thesis deals with the quantitative study about reading methods and learning styles. Reading Methods are Mind mapping and Guided Inquiry; Learning Styles are Impulsive and Reflective. Those were researched and examined to find out the effect of those: reading method and learning style on students reading comprehension and to find out which of the factorial interaction is more effective. The population of this research is SMA Negeri 2 Pematangsiantar students. And by applying cluster random sampling, 120 students from four classes of grade XI 2009/2010 academic year were taken and divided based on their learning styles. Two-way-ANOVA Analysis of Variance by Scheffe technique was applied to see the significant variance of the factorial interaction. And Post hoc analysis by Newman Keuls was used to see which is more effective of the factorial interactions. The analysis showed that reading method significantly affects reading comprehension. It was proved by the finding in which Fobserved is higher than Ftabte (39.6 > 3.93). But the analysis showed that Learning Style doesnt affect directly reading comprehension. It was proved by the finding in which Fobserved is lower than Ftahie (0.01 < 3.93. The analysis also showed that there is interaction between the two learning styles and reading methods. It is proved by the finding in which Fobserved is higher than Fta (34.45 > 3.93). And from the factorial interactions, the group of the students who have impulsive learning style and taught by using guided inquiry reading method is the lowest and the group of the students who have impulsive learning style and taught by using mind mapping is the highest.
