Abstract

The purposes of this research are : 1) To show the example of exemplary
material for teaching problem solving to improve problem solving ability of
students, 2) To know the effectiveness of the exemplary material between teacher
and students, 3) To know the implementability of Exemplary material to improve
problem solving ability of students.
The types of research is developmental research by using Plomp’s Model
which taken by 5 phases; Preliminary Investigation, Design Phase, Realization
Phase, Phase of Test, Realization and Revision, and then the implementation
Phase.
The research has done in MTs. Alwashliyah Tembung. The subject of this
research are the students in VIII-1 grade and the object of research is developing
exemplary material for teaching mathematics problem solving ability of
polyhedron for students of 8-th grade by using problem based learning strategy.
The result of the problem formulation are; 1) Based on the assessment of 3
validator, the exemplary material (Lesson plan) which should be develop can be
use as an exemplary material was valid with average 3.7 and have a high
reliability for teaching mathematics problem solving ability of polyhedron for
students of 8thgrade by using problem-based learning strategy. 2) The
effectiveness of the teaching and learning both of teacher and students by using
problem based learning strategy is effective, 3) the implementability of the
exemplary material by using problem solving ability to improve the problem
based learning strategy is succeed. Because the wishes is if the students of the test
get the completeness are ≥70% with the minimum value is 70, the research is
done, and then from the data in the field there are 71% students got completeness
in the final exam. Then, we get the result of research.
