Abstract

The purpose of this study was to examine: (1) Differences based learning problem-solving ability is a problem with conventional learning based on school accreditation. (2) Communication Ability Differences math problem-based learning with conventional learning based on school accreditation. (3) Reviewing the performance of students answers. Instruments used were: (1) test problem solving skills, (2) communication skills math test,the subject of comparison, shaped test description. Research is a semi-experimental research. The population of this research is a Class VII student at an accredited Asahan A, B and C were randomly selected one school from each accreditation A, B and C as research subjects, selected from SMP 1 Kisaran accreditation A Range, B accreditation selected from SMP 3 Pulau Rakyat and the accreditation of C selected SMP 2 Aek Kuasan. Then randomly selected two classes of class VII hump. Classes given experimental treatment of problem based learning and control classes given conventional treatment learning approach. Instruments used were: (1) test problem solving skills, (2) communication skills math test, the subject of comparison data analysis was performed by analysis of variance (ANOVA) and t test. The results of this study is the overall student learning with problem-based learning approach is significantly better in improving the ability of problem solving, mathematical communication and performance of students responses compared to students who are learning with conventional learning approaches.Based on the results of the study, the researchers recommend: problem-based learning approach in teaching mathematics to enhance problem solving and communication skills of mathematics can be used as an alternative for implementing innovative math learning.
