Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui perbedaan peningkatan kemampuan pemahaman matematik dan kemampuan berpikir kritis pada kelas siswa yang mengikuti pembelajaran berbasis masalah dan pada kelas siswa yang mengikuti pembelajaran konvensional. Selain itu untuk mengetahui pola dan variasi jawaban siswa terhadap kemampuan pemahaman matematik dan berpikir kritis pada kedua pembelajaran.Penelitian ini dilaksanakan di SMA Negeri 1 Gebang. Populasi dalam penelitian ini adalah seluruh siswa kelas X dengan sampel 2 kelas yang dipilih secara acak dengan menggunakan simple random sampling. Jenis penelitian ini adalah penelitian kuantitatif. Penelitian ini merupakan studi semi eksperimen dengan desain berbentuk randomized pre test-post test control group design yang menggunakan dua macam instrumen tes.Instrumen yang digunakan untuk mengumpulkan data dalam penelitian ini terdiri dari tes kemampuan pemahaman matematik dan tes berpikir kritis siswa pada pokok bahasan sistem persamaan linear. Pengolahan data untuk melihat terdapatnya perbedaan peningkatan kemampuan pemahaman matematik dan peningkatan kemampuan berpikir kritis siswa antara siswa yang memperoleh pembelajaran dengan pendekatan berbasis masalah dengan siswa yang memperoleh pembelajaran dengan pendekatan konvensional digunakan uji gain ternormalisasi, uji statistik berupa uji-t setelah pengujian persyaratan terpenuhi.Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa terdapat perbedaan peningkatan kemampuan pemahaman matematik dan kemampuan berpikir kritis siswa yang menggunakan pendekatan PBM dibanding dengan siswa dengan pendekatan konvensional. Selain itu, siswa yang diajar dengan pendekatan PBM memiliki variasi jawaban yang lebih variatif dibanding siswa yang diajar dengan pendekatan konvensional pada tes kemampuan pemahaman matematik dan kemampuan berpikir kritis. Dengan mencermati hasil penelitian tersebut, peneliti menyarankan kepada guru SMA untuk menggunakan pendekatan pembelajaran berbasis masalah sebagai salah satu alternatif dalam meningkatkan kemampuan pemahaman matematik dan berpikir kritis siswa.
