Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui apakah pemahaman konsep dan kemampuan pemecahan masalah matematika antara siswa yang dibelajarkan menggunakan model Pembelajaran Berbasis Masalah (PBM) lebih baik jika dibandingkan dengan siswa yang dibelajarkan dengan model pembelajaran konvensional di kelas X MIA SMA Negeri 21 Medan. Jenis penelitian ini adalah quasi eksperiment dengan populasi seluruh siswa kelas X MIA SMA Negeri 21 Medan yang terdiri dari 4 kelas. Sampel penelitian ini terdiri dari 2 kelas yang ditentukan dengan teknik cluster random sampling, yaitu Kelas X MIA-1 sebagai kelas eksperimen dan kelas X MIA-3 sebagai kelas kontrol. Instrumen penelitian ini berupa pretest dan postest yang berbentuk essay dan berjumlah 6 soal, yang terdiri dari 3 soal pemahaman konsep dan 3 soal kemampuan pemecahan masalah. Sebelum instrumen diberikan pada siswa terlebih dahulu divalidkan kepada dua orang dosen matematika dan seorang guru matematika. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian, untuk hasil nilai pre test pemahaman konsep yang diperoleh kelas eksperimen 〖γ^2〗_hitung = 7.158 dan kelas kontrol 〖γ^2〗_hitung = 7.067. Pada kemampuan pemecahan masalah yang diperoleh kelas eksperimen 〖γ^2〗_hitung = 7.440 dan kelas kontrol 〖γ^2〗_hitung = 6.652 serta 〖γ^2〗_tabel = 7.815. Sehingga diperoleh 〖γ^2〗_hitung < 〖γ^2〗_tabel, maka data kedua kelas berdistribusi normal. Pada uji homogenitas diperoleh untuk pemahaman konsep Fhitung = 1.6854 dan untuk kemampuan pemecahan masalah Fhitung = 1.2232 serta Ftabel = 1.8075 sehingga Fhitung < Ftabel , maka kedua sampel berasal dari populasi yang homogen. Kemudian pada kedua kelas diberikan perlakuan yang berbeda, kelas eksperimen dengan model pembelajaran berbasis masalah dan kelas kontrol dengan pembelajaran konvensional. Setelah pembelajaran selesai diberikan, diperoleh post test dengan nilai rata-rata pemahaman konsep siswa pada kelas eksperimen 63.54 dan kelas kontrol 36.04. Berdasarkan hasil pengujian hipotesis diperoleh thitung > ttabel yaitu 2.1810 > 1.6697 pada taraf signifikansi α = 0,05 dan dk = 62. Pada kemampuan pemecahan masalah, diperoleh post test dengan nilai rata-rata pada kelas eksperimen 75.10 dan kelas kontrol 66.56. Berdasarkan hasil pengujian hipotesis diperoleh thitung > ttabel yaitu 2.0180 > 1.6697 pada taraf signifikansi α = 0,05 dan dk = 62. Hal ini berarti H1 diterima, yang berarti pemahaman konsep dan kemampuan pemecahan masalah matematika antara siswa yang dibelajarkan menggunakan model Pembelajaran Berbasis Masalah (PBM) lebih baik jika dibandingkan dengan siswa yang dibelajarkan dengan model pembelajaran konvensional di kelas X MIA SMA Negeri 21 Medan.
