Abstract

Reading is a complex cognitive process. Reading processes is a complex cognitive process which happens in cognition as a part of personality which in this study, researcher applies the TI.J Eysenck personality types; (1)melancholic, (2)choleric, (3)phlegmatic, (4)sanguine. Psychologically, there are three models of reading; (1)bottom-up, (2) top-down, and (3) interactive. In this current time, there are two factors which basically influence reading processes; (1) Schemata and (2) English proficiency. This study is conducted to make a research in describing the reading comprehension processes from different readers personality. The main objection of this study is to see the personality influence which wants to discover whether the personality influences lead the reading models chosen through the analysis of interview transcript of English Major Students. The research is conducted by to 12 subjects, English Major whos selected from four types of personality; 3 students with different English proficiency level; high, mid, and low for one type of personality. Each student has to read two text; familiar and unfamiliar. The findings of this research show that schemata is the important factors in proceeding familiar text and linguistic proficiency is the important factoring proceeding unfamiliar text. Reading comprehension processes significantly affected by schemata and linguistics proficiency. There is no significantly influence of types of personalities because based on the research findings there is no different processes of reading compared from one type of personality to the others.
