Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui (1) peningkatan kemampuan komunikasi matematis dan kemandirian belajar siswa melalui pendekatan pembelajaran matematika realistik berbasis budaya Batak Toba lebih tinggi daripada siswa yang diberi pembelajaran biasa, (2) tidak terdapat interaksi antara pendekatan pembelajaran dengan kemampuan awal matematika (KAM) dalam peningkatan kemampuan komunikasi matematis siswa, (3) bagaimana proses penyelesaian jawaban siswa dalam menyelesaikan soal pada masing-masing pembelajaran. Jenis penelitian ini adalah kuasi eksperimen. Penelitian ini dilaksanakan di SMP N 2 Dolok Panribuan. Populasi dalam penelitian ini adalah seluruh siswa kelas VII dengan mengambil sampel dua kelas. Instrumen yang digunakan terdiri dari tes komunikasi matematis dan angket kemandirian belajar siswa. Instrumen tersebut dinyatakan telah memenuhi syarat validitas isi serta koefisien reabilitas tinggi yaitu 0,724. Data dianalisis dengan uji ANAVA dua jalur. Sebelum digunakan uji ANAVA dua jalur terlebih dahulu dilakukan uji homogenitas dalam penelitian dan normalitas dalam penelitian ini dengan taraf signifikan 5%. Berdasarkan hasil analisis tersebut diperoleh hasil penelitian yaitu: (1) peningkatan kemampuan komunikasi matematis dan kemandirian belajar siswa melalui pendekatan matematika realistik berbasis budaya Batak Toba lebih tinggi daripada siswa yang diberi pembelajaran biasa, (2) tidak terdapat interaksi antara pembelajaran dengan kemampuan awal siswa terhadap peningkatan kemampuan komunikasi matematis dan Kemandirian belajar siswa, (3) Proses penyelesaian jawaban yang dibuat oleh siswa dalam menyelesaikan masalah pada pendekatan matematika realistik berbasis budaya Batak Toba lebih baik daripada siswa pada pembelajaran biasa. Temuan penelitian merekomendasikan pendekatan matematika realistik berbasis budaya Batak Toba dijadikan salah satu pendekatan pembelajaran yang digunakan di sekolah terutama untuk mencapai kompetensi kreatif, variatif dan inovatif. Saran kepada guru adalah sebaiknya penerapan pembelajaran matematika realistik berbasis budaya Batak Toba pada pembelajaran matematika yang menekankan kepada kemampuan komunikasi matematis dan kemandirian belajar siswa dapat dijadikan salah satu alternatif untuk menerapkan pembelajaran matematika yang menarik dan inovatif khususnya dalam mengajarkan materi segiempat sehingga visualisasi siswa tentang objek segiempat dapat dilihat menjadi lebih nyata melalui kebudayaan sekitar terkhususnya budaya Batak Toba
