PENCIPTAAN BATIK MELAYU SUMATERA UTARA

North Sumatera is rich with local cultures, one of them is Malay’s ornament with its various motives. Unfortunately, it has not directly touched the human daily needs. The ornament which contains patterns and motives needs a real effort to be formed into work of art that touches men’s need. The shape and form are implemented into batik work. The process of batik creation needs several steps in series. Making the design, applying the wax, coloring the motives, and vanishing the wax are the steps that must be taken in the process of batik creation. The products of batik creation among others are batik shirt, batik pillowcase, etc. The coloring process uses napthol with green and yellow as
the specific colors of Malay ethnic. Therefore, the specific Malay batik as the local identity in North
Sumatera emanates.
