THEME AND RHEME IN MANDAILING SONG TEXTS BY ODANG AND MASDANI

This study deals with kinds of Theme and Rheme in Mandailing song texts by Odang and Masdani. The objectives of this study are to describe the kinds of Theme and Rheme in Mandailing song texts by Odang and Masdani, to describe realization of Theme and Rheme in Mandailing songs by Odang and Masdani, to explain the reasons of Theme and Rheme as they are in Mandailing songs by Odang and Masdani. The source of the data was taken from the video recorded. The data of this study are lyrics of Mandailing song that contain Theme and Rheme. the data analysis found out the findings that are four kinds of Theme and Rheme used in Mandailing song by Odang and Masdani. The kinds are Unmarked simple Theme, Unmarked Multiple Theme, Marked simple Theme, Marked Multiple Theme. And found six pattern of realization of Theme and Rheme used in Mandailing song text of Odang and Masdani namely: Breech from Rheme to Theme, Breech from Theme to Rheme, pattern of Theme to the Theme, pattern of Rheme to the Theme, pattern of Theme to the Rheme, pattern of Rheme to the Rheme.
