Abstract

Visualisation in teaching chemistry respresent a pedagogial approach using computer simulatiok explain abstract concepts through modelling to obtain a bettet understanding of chemistry. The aim of this study is to develop intractive computer model of teaching inorganic chemistry.this model has been implement in inorganic chemistry course at a chemistry department of a university in bandung using quasi exoerimental method. Based on data analysis SPSS for windiw 11.5, the model of teaching improves chemistry students generic ability, especially on modelling . abstraction and logical consistency, data studens value of using computer simulation shows better student understanding in abstract concepts espesially for students with lower prior knowledge who learns in group rather than individually (1=51,913,p=0,000). Frim students prior knowladge, we can predict students concept mastery in inorganic chemistry evaluated by intractive computer test, especially for students eith high prioe knowladge who learn individually. The correlation between GPA, IQ and prior knowladge to concept mastery are very significant with r=0,0570, r=0,3 and r=0,37. it is expected that all students will be able to use the intractive simulation to improve their mastery of coordination chemistry concepts and principles. Web based chemistry learning that was deeloped at http://kimia.upi.edu/moodle/ give me new experience to students to apply and further develop the course materials creatively and comfortably. This online learning greatly contributes to the improvement of intregrated learning with N-gain value 0,459 for classroom teaching and 0,763 for multimedia-based inorganic chemistry experiment.this teaching model can be applied to manipulate more joyful learning environment and to increase students’ motivation.
