DEVELOPING ENGLISH SPEAKING MATERIALS FOR GRADE ELEVEN STUDENTS OF SECRETARY STUDY PROGRAM AT SMK TARBIAH ISLAMYIAH

This study aims to find out the target need and learning needs of the students and to develop English speaking materials for grade eleven students of secretary study program at SMK Tarbiah Islamiah and to design English speaking materials for grade eleven students of secretary study program at SMK Tarbiah Islamiah. The research was conducted by Research and Development (R & D) design through six phases; gathering information and data, analyzing data, designing new materials, validating by experts, revising, and final product. It was conducted at SMK Tarbiah Islamiyah, especially grade XI. The data were gathered by administering interview to English teacher and distributing questionnaire to 30 students to get the students’ needs. The result proves that the students need English speaking materials which contain the appropriate materials based on Curriculum, Syllabus, and Students’ study program. Thus, developing materials consist of two basic competences in the even semester. There are two units provided, they are: The Agenda, and Express Yourself. The products have been validated by experts. The average scores are 4,24 from English subject teacher and 4,10 English lecturer. It means the developing materials categorized as relevant or appropriate for students of secretary study program at SMK Tarbiah Islamiyah grade XI.
