Abstract
The aim of this research is to find out the optimal dehydrator and temperature, time and amount of dehydration of ricinoleic of castor. Dehydration as means to obtain linoleic and CLA (conjugated linoleic acid) named is DCO (dehydrated castor oil). The others aim is to find out suitable method for linoleic isomerization of DCO into CLA. Dehydration was carried out using various kind of dehydrator, temperature, time and amount of dehydrator. The reaction medium was maintained under vacuum through by silica gel, gentle bubling with nitrogen thorough by Mg, and used Zn as an antipolymerized agent. Dehydration was followed by GC and identification analyzed by FTIR, UV and GC- MS and the data was compared with the standard. The best result was obtain by P2O5 for 200C, 3% (w/w) P2O5, and 4 h with a convertion factor (yield) of 97,94%. The composition was: linoleic (9c - 12c) 12,13%; linoleic (9c/t - 12 t/c) 41,41%; CLA (9c/t - 11c/t) 11,72%; CLA (9t - 11t) 22,27% and 0,47% residual ricinoleic.
