COMMUNICATIVE SKILLS AND ESP MATERIALS DESIGN FOR NURSES

The nurses need to acliieve other important skills in order to compete with other
nur$~S all ov~r the world to get brighter and better future in the globalisation era.
Nurses especially in Indonesia must be provided with other skills beside their own
skills in the field of health care and treatment for deseas. This thesis deals with the
communicative skiJls and materials design for N"ursing Academy. It is expected that
the materials arc communicatively applicable for hnelda Nursing Academy especially
for those who want to work overseas with English as the means of communication on
doing their everyday jobs. The informants were taken from two nurses who already
worked for more than two years at Sclangor Medical Centre which located in
Malaysia. To obtain the data, the interview wa~ applied to both of the nurses. To add
other information, the writer also read related documents. BaseJ on the interviews
and the reading, the writer designs materials required of the nurses in order to help
them in doing their job in the future. The data analysis showed that the nurses needed
to learn vocabularies in relation to medical terms. The design -of materials are
expected to be able to tailor the target needs of the nurses. It is expected that this
study will have a significant to the improvement of the nurses> ability in performing a
better service as required of their jobs.
