Abstract

This study concerns with Translation in “Kung Fu Panda” movie especially in Grand Master Oogway’s character dialogues. This study was conducted by using descriptive qualitative design as the research method. The data of the study were taken from two subtitles from Kung Fu Panda 3 movie compositing of 80 statements. From this study, it was found that there were 7 types of translation methods that used in translating the dialogues. They were 40 statements (50%) for Literal translation, 7 (8,75%) for Adaptation, 21 (26,25%) for Transposition, 7 (8,75%) for Modulation, just 1 (1,25%) for Borrowing, 2 (2,5%) for Calque, and 2 (2,5%) for Equivalent. The most dominant type of translation method used was Literal Translation (50%) because the sentences used by the character were simple, common, and did not use too many phrases and idioms
