Abstract
Sistem kopling merupakan salah satu jenis pemindah daya (Power Train). Sistem kopling bekerja dari mulai putaran poros engkol pada mesin, lalu diterima oleh kopling melalui adanya gesekan antara plat kopling dengan fly wheel. Tenaga yang diterima plat kopling kemudian disalurkan ke transmisi. Permasalahan yang dibahas dalam penulisan tugas akhir ini yaitu mengenai prinsip kerja, cara merencanakan sebuah kopling, dan mengetahui ukuran komponen-komponen kopling. Komponen-komponen utama kopling pada Toyota Avanza antara lain poros, spline dan naaf, plat gesek, pegas dan bantalan. Prinsip kerjanya yaitu pada saat pedal kopling ditekan penuh, gerakkan pedal akan diteruskan oleh mekanis penggerak, sehingga akan mendorong plat penekan melawan dorongan pegas penekan, maka plat kopling tidak mendapat dorongan. Gesekan antara plat kopling dengan fly wheel dan plat penekan tidak terjadi, sehingga dalam hal ini putaran mesin tidak diteruskan. Apabila plat kopling dilepas, maka gaya pegas akan kembali mendorong dengan penuh plat penekan. Plat penekan menghimpit plat kopling fly wheel dengan kuat, sehingga terjadi gesekan yang kuat dan mengakibatkan plat kopling dan fly wheel berputar bersamaan sesuai dengan putaran poros engkol. Dengan demikian putaran dan daya mesin diteruskan sepenuhnya tanpa slip. Gangguan yang sering terjadi pada system kopling antara lain kopling slip, kopling tidak dapat dilepas, kopling bergetar, kopling bunyi saat pedal kopling dilepas dan saat pedal kopling diinjak. Hal ini akan mengakibatkan terganggunya kerja dari system kopling.
