Abstract

This experiment aimed to know the effectiveness ethanolic extract of Mangosteen rind (EEKM) (Garcinia Mangostana L) as antioxidants in mice given MSG on macroscopic and microscopic features in the kidney. Mice divided into 5 groups, first group (P0) was a control group, (P1): was given MSG 8mg/g bw/day on 1-21 days and 22-35 days no treatment. (P2): was given MSG 8mg/g bw/day on 1-21 days and 22-35 days given (EEKM) 600mg/kg bw/day, (P3): was given MSG 8mg/g bw/day on 1-21 days and on 22-35 days of vitamin E 0.2mg/g bw/day, and (P4): only given EEKM as much as 600mg/kg bw/day for 14 days. The results showed MSG in the given dose produced macroscopic damage to the kidney although not significant (p>0.05), but microscopically significant (p<0.05) and with EEKM could be repaired significantly (p<0,05). In this experiments, it was found out that the EEKM could repair the microscopic damage in the kidney induced by MSG.
