Abstract

This study aims to determine: (1) the difference in the results among students who study chemistry using online and offline interactive learning media, (2) differences in the learning outcomes of students who have open interpersonal communication and closed interpersonal communication, (3) interaction between the application of interactive learning media and interpersonal communication in influencing the students chemistry lesson learning outcomes. This study is a quasi-experimental research. The population in this study amounted to 285 students from five grade X classes at Sutomo 2 private school Medan, while the sample of 100 students are taken from two classes using random cluster sampling. Before the treatment was given, a test was given prior to distinguish the open and closed interpersonal communication possessed by students. The test learning outcomes are used to collect research data by first being tested to determine the level of validity and reliability. The results obtained from 45 questions tested, 40 questions met the requirements. To present and describe the data, descriptive statistics is used, while to test the hypothesis the inferential statistics is applied. Research hypotheses were tested using 2-lane ANOVA that were previously done with Lilifors test requirements normality and homogeneity of variance test with the Barlett test and Fisher test. The results obtained by testing hypotheses: (1) chemistry learning outcomes of students who were guided using an online interactive learning media is higher than those under offline interactive learning media which is indicated by Fc= 6.596 > Ft= 3.94 at significance level α = 0.05 with df = (1.96), (2) results of the students who have studied chemistry with open interpersonal communication are higher compared to those who have closed interpersonal communication indicated by Fc=11.18 > Ft= 3.94 at significance level α = 0.05 with df = (1.96), and (3) there is interaction between the use of interactive learning media with interpersonal communication in influencing the outcome of study chemistry Fc=68.38 > Ft=3.94 at significance level α = 0.05 with df = (1.96). From the results of data analysis it can be concluded that the use of online interactive learning media is more appropriate for students who have open interpersonal communication and offline interactive learning media is more suited to be used on students who have closed interpersonal communication.
