Abstract

This Study aims to analyze the implementation of scientific approach in teaching
reading comprehension in online learning. This research dealt with the Zoom
meeting apllication used by teacher, how the teacher implemented the scientific
approach in online learning, and the problems the teacher faced in implementing
scientific approach in teaching reading comprehension through E-learning in SMA
Negeri 1 Batang Kuis. The data were collected for two meetings and there was an
English teacher at grade X in SMA Negeri 1 Batang Kuis. This study used
descriptive qualitative design. The data were collected by following instruments:
observing and interviewing. The findings of this study revealed that in teaching
reading comprehension of descriptive text during online there are 5 stages which
are follows: 1) Observing, 2) Questioning, 3) Associating, 4) Experimenting and 5)
Communicating. The learning activities were pre-activity, main activity, and
closing activity. The teacher has conducted five steps of scientfic approach even
though sometimes she or the teacher applied the steps doesn’t sequentially. But
general the teacher had applied this approach well enough in online learning. And
the problems faced by teacher are: Unstable Network, the teacher’s ability to use
technology in online learning and lack of responding by students such as lose of
focus during online teaching learning process
