ANALYSIS OF STUDENTS' PROBLEM SOLVING ABILITY IN SOLVING MATHEMATICAL PROBLEMS IN TERMS OF GENDER DIFFERENCES IN EIGHTH GRADE STUDENTS AT SMP NEGERI 1 LABUHAN DELI

The purpose of this research was to analyze: 1) the male students problem-solving ability in solving mathematical problems, 2) the female students problem-solving ability in solving mathematical problems, 3) students' answer processes in solving mathematical problems in terms of gender differences. This research is a descriptive qualitative research that aims to describe problem-solving ability in mathematical problem solving in terms of gender differences. Subjects in this research were students of class VIII SMP Negeri 1 Labuhan Deli. The subjects consisted of two students; one high-ability male student and one high-ability female student. Data obtained from tests given in the form of essays and interview. While the object of this research is the students' mathematical problem solving ability in solving mathematical problems in terms of gender differences on the subject of number pattern. Based on the analysis of research data, the result that: the problem solving ability of female junior high school students on average is better than the problem solving ability of male junior high school students as seen from the way of thinking how to understand and solve problems.
