Politeness Strategy of Tony Lip in Green Book Movie

This research discussed politeness strategies used by main character Tony Lip in
Green Book movie. The aims of this research to figure out the type of politeness
strategy and the reasons of politeness strategy used by Tony Lip in the movie.
This study was conducted by using descriptive qualitative method. It was
concerned with the description of the data in the form of utterances produced by
Tony Lip in Green Book movie. In conducting this research, the researcher (1)
found out the types of politeness strategies used by Tony Lip in Green Book
movie. (2) described the realization type of politeness strategies in Green Book
movie. (3) explained the reason why politeness strategies using in Green Book
movie. The data of this research was the transcript of Tony Lip utterances in
Green Book movie. In the application of politeness strategies, Tony Lip utterances
mostly applied positive politeness strategy. The result showed that the most
dominant type of politeness strategies is positive politeness strategy (44,18%).
The percentage bald on record was (33,72), Negative politeness strategy was
(22,1%), and the lowest percentage was off the record (0%). The data showed the
situation and social distance would influence the using of politeness strategy in
Green Book movie.
