Abstract

The study deals with the strategies in teaching reading, especially recount text. The
objectives of the study were to find out the strategies that used by teachers and their
reasons of using it. The research method of this study was qualitative research. The data
of this study were taken from transcription of recorded video from two English teachers
when teaching in the class with different ages and experiences that have been chosen
before. The data of this research were analyzed by using Sugiyono’s theory. The
researcher found that WH used four strategies. They were scaffolding (100%), thinkaloud
(50%), SQ3R (20%) and QARs (50%) and RS used four strategies too. They were
scaffolding (33%), reciprocal teaching (100%), SQ3R (20%) and QARs (50%). And
There were two dominat strategies that used by teachers. Scaffolding and reciprocal
teaching, in order to create a good combination and collaboration between teacher and
students and to measure how far students’ understanding about the material.
