Abstract

Tujuan dari penelitian ini untuk menelaah: (1) Perbedaan pemahaman konsep matematis siswa yang memperoleh pembelajaran berbasis masalah dengan siswa yang memperoleh pembelajaran biasa, (2) Mendeskripsikan/menelaah kemampuan pemahaman konsep matematis siswa yang bersikap positif dan yang bersikap negatif terhadap matematika, (3) Mengetahui proses jawaban yang dibuat siswa untuk kedua kelompok dari setiap butir soal pemahaman konsep matematis siswa, (4) Mengetahui ketuntasan belajar siswa yang memperoleh pembelajaran berbasis masalah.Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian semi eksperimen. Populasi penelitian ini adalah seluruh siswa SMP yang ada di Medan. Secara acak, dipilih satu sekolah sebagai subyek penelitian, yaitu SMP Negeri 14 Medan. Kemudian secara acak dipilih dua kelas dari sekolah tersebut. Kelas eksperimen diberi perlakuan model pembelajaran berbasis masalah dan kelas kontrol diberi perlakuan pembelajaran biasa. Instrumen yang digunakan terdiri dari: tes kemampuan pemahaman konsep dan angket sikap siswa terhadap matematika. Instrumen tersebut dinyatakan telah memenuhi syarat validitas isi, serta koefisien reliabilitas sebesar 0,736 untuk kemampuan pemahaman konsep matematis. Analisa data dilakukan dengan Uji t. Hasil utama dari penelitian ini adalah: (1) Secara keseluruhan siswa yang pembelajarannya dengan model pembelajaran berbasis masalah secara signifikan lebih baik dalam meningkatkan kemampuan pemahaman konsep matematis siswa dibandingkan siswa yang menggunakan pembelajaran biasa. (2) Siswa yang bersikap positif terhadap matematika mempunyai kemampuan pemahaman matematis secara signifikan lebih baik dibandingkan siswa yang bersikap negatif terhadap matematika. Secara deskriptif juga dikaji jawaban dari rumusan masalah yaitu: (1) Proses penyelesaian masalah siswa yang pembelajarannya dengan model pembelajaran berbasis masalah lebih bervariasi dibandingkan dengan siswa yang menggunakan pembelajaran biasa. (2) Ketuntasan belajar siswa yang memperoleh pembelajaran berbasis masalah lebih baik daripada siswa yang memperoleh pembelajaran biasa. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian, maka peneliti menyarankan agar model pembelajaran berbasis masalah pada pembelajaran matematika untuk meningkatkan kemampuan pemahaman konsep matematis siswa dapat dijadikan sebagai salah satu alternatif untuk menerapkan pembelajaran matematika yang inovatif, dapat menciptakan suasana pembelajaran yang menyenangkan, dan memberi kesempatan pada siswa untuk mengungkapkan gagasannya dalam bahasa dan cara mereka sendiri.
