Abstract

The purposes of conducting this research were to find out the most dominant students’ learning style in reading comprehension and to describe how the teacher conducts teaching reading comprehension based on students’ learning styles at the tenth grade students of SMKS Al-Washliyah Pasar Senen 2 Medan in academic year 2018/2019. There were 30 students from 1 class as the subject of this research. In this case, the researcher collected the data by using learning style questionnaire, reading comprehension test and interview the teacher. The result showed that there were some types of students learning styles in this case. Visual learning style is the most dominant one (40.00%). Auditory (16.67%). Kinesthetic (16.67%). Some students also prefer to do combine learning styles; Visual- Kinesthetic learning style (10.00%). Visual-Auditory learning style (13.33%). Auditory-Kinesthetic learning style (3.33%). Students’ learning style which has higher achievement in reading comprehension was Visual learning style (26.32%). It means that students that had visual learning style more active in learning or in answer the questions. Meanwhile Kinesthetic learning style (22.22%) and Auditory learning style (20.00%). Teacher’s ways of teaching reading comprehension based on students’ learning styles were greeting the students, introducing the topic to the students, providing information about descriptive text to the students, giving instruction to the students, assessing the students’ answers.
