Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui kemampuan pemecahan masalah siswa dalam menyelesaikan soal matematika pada materi aritmetika sosial dan mengetahui penyebab kesulitan yang dihadapi siswa dalam menyelesaikan soal matematika pada materi aritmetika sosial berdasarkan tahapan Polya. Subjek dalam penelitian ini adalah seluruh siswa/i kelas VII SMPS Al-Washliyah 4 Medan tahun ajaran 2018/2019 yang berjumlah 43 siswa. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah metode deskriptif kualitatif. Pengambilan subjek wawancara dengan menggunakan teknik Purposive sampling sebanyak 8 orang siswa, yaitu 2 siswa yang berkemampuan tinggi, 2 siswa yang berkemampuan sedang, 2 siswa berkemampuan rendah, dan 2 siswa berkemampuan sangat rendah. Instrumen penelitian ini menggunakan tes kemampuan pemecahan masalah, wawancara, dan dokumentasi. Dari hasil penelitian data diperoleh tingkat kemampuan pemecahan masalah siswa yaitu tingkat kemampuan pemecahan masalah tinggi sebanyak 4 siswa atau 9,3%, tingkat kemampuan pemecahan masalah sedang sebanyak 18 siswa atau 41,9%, tingkat kemampuan pemecahan masalah rendah sebanyak 14 siswa atau 32,5%, dan tingkat kemampuan pemecahan masalah sangat rendah sebanyak 7 siswa atau 16,3%. Dari hasil analisis data disimpulkan bahwa kesulitan terbesar siswa kelas VII SMPS Al-Washliyah 4 Medan dalam menyelesaikan pemecahan masalah dengan menggunakan tahapan Polya berada pada kesulitan tahap memeriksa kembali, hal ini dikarenakan siswa kurang mampu memeriksa kembali hasil jawaban yang telah diperoleh.
