Abstract

This study investigates Taxonomic Relation of Surah Al-Baqarah in English Translation. The objectives of this study are to investigate the types used, to explain how taxonomic relation realized, and to elaborate the reasons of taxonomic relations used. It was presented in a qualitative data analysis. The source of data was taken from the English Quran translation by Yusuf Ali. The data of this study were the clauses that related to Taxonomic Relation of Surah Al Baqarah from the section 3 verse 40-103 and section 4 verse 104-141. The data analysis found out the types of taxonomic relation in English Quran Translation of Surah Al-Baqarah. They are repetition, synonym, contrast: opposition (antonym and converse), contrast: series (scales), class: class member and co-class, part: whole part and co-part in surah al-Baqarah. Whereas, the contrast: series (cycles) was not found in both sections of surah Al-Baqarah. The process of the research showed that the lexical chain of logogentic was densely, medium and minor which the medium pattern is the most dominant one and showed that section 3 and section 4 is in the level medium too easy to be understand. The reasons for taxonomic relation in English Translation of surah Al-Baqarah for section 3 and section 4 was generated from the feature [+institutionalized/social/+specialized] because they are regulated by certain field of religion and was directed to social. Repetition in section 3 and section 4 that found dominantly which has function as the rules that purposed to command, warn, and prohibit to the Israel and belief people related to the grace, rewards, and punishment that would be gotten from Allah.
