Abstract
This study observed Mandailing Language Maintenance in Desa Pangarungan Kecamatan Torgamba. The main objective of the study were to answer the research problem under study, that is (1) to explain the ways how Mandailing people maintain mandailing language in Desa Pangarungan Kecamatan Torgamba. The method of this study was descriptive qualitative research. The participants were sixteen Mandailing people who live in Desa Pangarungan Kecamatan Torgamba. The data were taken from the interview and questionnaire. Specifically, the ways in maintaining Mandailing language in 93% by seeing the result of interview, language use in family is mostly dominated in this study, neighborhood in 62%, religion in 37%, workplace in 62%, homeland visits in 50%, and following the culture in 87%, see each other frequently in 50% and education in 12%. In detail, language use in family is dominated and it has the big role in maintaining Mandailing language in this study.
