Abstract

This study deals with the development of English Speaking Materials of vocational school, majoring Hotel Accomodation Study Program. The objective of this study are : (1) to know the existing English speaking material for students of hotel accomodation study program, and (2) to investigate the relevant English supplementary speaking materials for the students of Hotel Accomodation study program, and (3) to develop appropriate English supplementary speaking materials through Contextual Teaching and Learning (CTL) approach for students of Hotel Accomodation study program. The research was conducted in SMK Negeri 1 Beringin. The research procedures of this study were Research and Development ( R & D) through three phases: 1) evaluation and need analysis, 2) course design, and 3) materials validation. The instuments used in this research were documentary sheet, questionnaire and interview. The data from evaluation and need analysis were analyzed by using descriptive technique and the data from expert judgement results were using quantitative data analysis. The result of this study was a course book of speaking materials through contextual teaching learning which consist of title, objective, look and speak up, listen and practice, grammar in use, let’s discuss and reflection. The contextual teaching learning materials consist of three units, they are greeting guests, handling reservation, and dealing with guests’ request and complaint. Based on the experts’ judgement result, the score was 89 which belong to good category based on Dirgeyasa (2011), since the range is ( 70-89).
