Abstract

Passion fruit is one of Indonesia's fresh fruit products that are in great demand by domestic and foreign consumers. Passion fruit is a fruit that can be consumed in fresh form can also be in the form of juice, syrup or in the form of jelly. For most people in North Sumatra, consuming passion fruit in the form of syrup is generally carried out on certain holidays, while consuming daily passion generally prefers passion fruit in the form of fresh fruit. While for people outside of North Sumatra, passion fruit is a typical souvenir in the form of syrup from the region that can be used as a souvenir, when visiting the region. This makes passion fruit one of the commodities that actually has specificity for consumers. One way to find out the relationship between types of one species to another is to look at the similarities in morphological characteristics. The success of plant breeding programs to improve the character of a plant is largely determined by the availability of genetic resources. The purpose of this study was to identify morphological characteristics of passion fruit species in Karo Regency, North Sumatra. Data analysis is in the form of qualitative descriptive and displays data in the form of tables and documentation of data collection in the field. There are two types of passion fruit which are Passiflora ligularis Juss or Passiflora edulis var. Edulis. The characterization was observed morphologically where the most striking differences were leaf shape, leaf edge, shape of flower crown, leaf shape, flower shape, fruit color, pulp color, clarity on fruit lenticels, fruit size, funiculus color on fruit, thick skin fruit, and taste in fruit.
