SOUND DEVICES IN MINANGKABAU’S “PEPATAH-PETITIH” PROVERB

The research was focused on the topic about Sound Devices in Minangkabau’s “Pepatah-Petitih” Proverb. This study was aimed at identify the types of sound devices and the implications of the dominant type of sound device were used in Minangkabau’s “Pepatah-Petitih” proverb. This study was conducted by applying descriptive qualitative method. The source of data was taken from the book of Minangkabau’s proverbs entitled (1000 Pepatah-Petitih, Mamang-Bidal, pantun-gurindam: bidang social, budaya, ekonomi, politik, hukum, hankam dan agama di Minangkabau). The data were collected by using documentary technique. Instrument for collecting the data is using documentary sheet. The technique for analyzing the data is descriptive qualitative research. The result of this research was types of sound devices can be found in the proverbs are Alliteration (25.54 %), Assonance (13.59%), Consonance (11.96%), Rhyme (28.80%) and Repetition (20.11%). The most dominant type of sound devices that used in Minangkabau’s “Pepatah-Petitih” proverb is Rhyme with percentage 28.80% . The implication of dominant type of sound devices used in Minangkabau’s “Pepatah-Petitih” Proverb is essential for attractive and interesting reading with chimming effect to create beautiful sounds and to signal the ends of lines, thus clarifying the metrical structure to get readers and listeners attention
