Abstract

This study aims to find out the target need and learning needs of the students and to develop English reading materials for the 11th grade students of architecture at SMK Negeri 2 Medan. This research was conducted by Research and Development (R & D) design through six phases: gathering information and data, analyzing data, designing the materials, validating, revising materials, and final draft. The research was conducted at SMK Negeri 2 Medan in grade 11 of architecture students. The data were gathered by distributing questionnaire to 25 students to get the students’ needs and administrating interview to English teacher. The result proves that the students need English based on Curriculum, Syllabus, and students’ study program. The development material was English reading material especially in procedure text. The product had been validated by experts. The average scores are 4, 65 from an English lecturer and 4, 55 from an English teacher. It means the development material categorized as relevant or appropriate for students in grade 11 of architecture study program at SMK Negeri 2 Medan
