Abstract

This study aims at analyzing the relevance of the reading materials in The Bridge English Competence 2 textbook to the standard criteria of aspects of contents and aspects of presentation as proposed by the Board of National Standard of Education. This study was conducted by using descriptive qualitative design. In collecting the data, the researcher uses document as data source. The data were analyzed by these steps; (1) Choosing 5 texts as the representatives of the reading material within the textbook, (2) Analyzing the data by using the description table of aspects of contents as proposed by BSNP, (3) Analyzing the data by using the description table of aspects of presentation as proposed by BSNP, (4) Interpreting the data using descriptive qualitative explanation, and (5) Concluding the result of the research. After had been analyzed, it is found that some standard criteria of aspects of contents and aspects of presentation of the National Standard of Education under School-Based Curriculum has been fulfilled by the textbook publisher. Meanwhile, there are some criteria that needed to be revised or developed because some texts are lack of the development of life-skills and diversity insight, no index and some of the materials have no source. This textbook is still suitable to be used to help teacher and students in the process of teaching and learning with some additional materials and creativity from the teachers themselves.
