Abstract

The aim of this research was to determine the effect of problem based learning model with Know-Want-Learn (KWL) method for problem solving ability at dynamic electricity topic. The type of research was quasi-experiment with the population in this research is all students in class X SMA Nurul Iman Tj. Morawa A.Y. 2015/2016. Sample were taken by cluster random sampling technique consist of two classes, X-1 as experiment class and X-2 as control class. Instrument that used to determine problem solving ability of students was an essay test of problem solving ability with 8 items. Data was analyzed using t test. The results showed that experiment class with using problem based learning model with Know-Want-Learn (KWL) method and control class with using conventional learning, the average of problem solving ability in experiment class 66,29 with moderate skill level category and control class 55,20 with low skill level category. The result of post-test was tcount > ttable = 2,360 > 1,999. Thus, it can be concluded that problem solving ability of students with using problem based learning model with Know-Want-Learn (KWL) method is greater than problem solving ability of students with using conventional learning at dynamic electricty topic in class X SMA Nurul Iman Tj. Morawa A.Y. 2015/2016.
