Abstract

Tissue Culture is a subject with a 3 (three) credits are included in the field of Biotechnology study. The purpose of this research is to improve students' competence in
tissue culture materials and application of pioneering animation-based instructional media in order to obtain improved quality of learning in tissue culture material. The strategies undertaken to achieve the target by performing the class action consisting of three cycles.
The first cycle consists of planning (preparing teaching materials: with transparency media), the implementation with conventional teaching with overhead projector and
transparencies), the method used is a questions and answers, regular group discussions, lectures. The second cycle begins with a plan: to train students to make an animation based instructional media, prepare the course material with animation media. The third cycle, the presentation of course material by students using the medium of animation and model of cooperative learning jigsaw type. The team acted as observers to the lecturer is teach, seeing the level of student involvement in lectures, students' competence in presenting learning materials. The results showed, the value of tissue culture subjects after this study was 21.4% got an A and 50% got a B and the remaining C, an increase compared to the previous semester. Penyajian to clarify the matter with the delivery of multimedia messages either in writing or orally; overcome the limitations of space, time and the senses; to overcome the passive attitude of students; improve to learn I more motivated, there is direct interaction between the learner with the environment and enable learners to learn independent.
