Abstract

This study was focused on the investigation of the effect of using teaching technique on Students’ Achievement in Writing narrative Text. This study discovered the effect of using four square technique on Students’ Writing Achievement. It was conducted by using experimental research design. The population of this research was grade VIII students of SMP Negeri 27 Medan divided into two groups, namely experimental and control group. The experimental group was taught by using four square technique, while the control group was taught by using lecture method. The instrument of collecting data was writing narrative text. It was found that the value of t-observed was 2.870 with the degree of freedom (df) = 58 at the level of significance ɑ (0,05) = 1.673. It means that t-observed is higher than t-table (2.870 > 1.673). Therefore, the using four square Technique has significant effect on students’ achievement in writing narrative text.
