Abstract

This study aims at investigating the effect of applying Collaborative Strategic on students reading comprehension. This study used the experimental design. The population of the study was the students of SMA Negeri 2 Tebing Tinggi. There were sixty students used as the sample out of the research from population of 240 students. This study was conducted with two groups, namely experimental and control group. The experimental group was taught by applying Collaborative Strategic Reading. The instrument of collecting the data was multiple choice tests. To obtain the reability of the test, the writer used Kuder Richardson formula (KR20). The result of the study showed that the reability of the test was 0.70. The data was analyzed by using t-test formula, the analysis showed that the score of students in experimental group was significantly higher than that of students in control group at level of significance of 0.05 with the degree of freedom (df) 58, t-observed is 5.92 while t-table is 2.00 Therefore, the null hypothesis is rejected and alternative hypothesis is accepted.
