Abstract

This study attempted to improve students achievement in reading recounts text through the application of Think Pair Share strategy. This study was conducted by using classroom action research. The subject of the research was class VIII SMP Panca Jaya Galang which consisted of 30 students. The research was conducted in two cycles and every cycle consisted of five meetings. The instruments for collecting data were reading Test used quantitative data and qualitative data (diary notes, observation sheet, and questionnaire sheet). Based on the reading test scores, students score kept improving in every test. In the orientation test the mean score was 55.46, in the first cycle, the mean score of the competence score was 73.1, in the second cycle, the mean of competence score was 85.56. Based on the diary notes, observation sheet, and questionnaire sheet, it was found that teaching- learning process ran well. Students were active, enthusiastic, and interested in reading. The result of the research showed that Think Pair Share strategy could improve students achievement in reading recounts text.
