Abstract

It is undoubted that an innovation is really needed in the learning process of Social Science in the university especially in the education program of elementary teacher. It is based on the reality that in general the learning process of Social Science is still conventional, lack of improvisation and far from contextual learning. The model of contextual learning actually can be implemented in the social science learning. The model of contextual learning is signified by: its orientation to children’s need and interest, giving attention to social problems, giving priority more to the skill of thinking than memorizing, inquiry skill, doing research in the environment, problem solving, and based on the utilization of natural environment. The Social science teacher should apply the model of contextual learning in his class so the learning process will be active, innovative, creative, effective and enjoyable.
