Abstract

The objectives of this study are to find out (1) the different result of students learning in biology taught by using discovery learning in STAD Type Cooperative Learning System, Discovery Learning and Conventional Learning; (2) the different students social skill taught by using discovery learning in STAD Type Cooperative Learning System, Discovery Learning and Conventional Learning. The sample was taken from class X1 consist of 38 students, from class X2 consist of 40 students, and from class X3 consist 40 students. These three classes choosen as experimental classes. Data analytical technic was made by using ANACOVA and ANAVA applications. The test will analyze by using Scheffe-test, namely normality and homogeneity test. The reliability of the test is 0,902 larger than rtable = 0,355, therefore the test is reliable. The hypothesis test result shows: (1) the result of student study in biology taught by using discovery learning in STAD Type Cooperative Learning System (average =84,11) is higher than using Discovery Learning System (average = 80,60) and conventional learning system (average = 76,30); (2) students social skill taught by usig discovery learning (average = 80,60) is better than Discovery Learning in STAD Type Cooperative Learning System (average = 68,08) and conventional learning (65,75). The implication of this study shows discovery learning in STAD Type Cooperative Learning System increases the students study result and social skill. Therefore the result of this study expected to be useful for biology teachers to use discovery learning as extra biology laboratory study.
